Multiband spectrum auction in Belgium concluded

Belgian regulator BIPT announced the end of the multiband spectrum auction on 20 July 2022, following the main phase closing on 20 June. We at Specure are happy to have helped our client run a successful spectrum auction and contributed to the smooth procedure. The auction will shape the country’s mobile telecom landscape for the next 20 years.

5G auction in Estonia started

The 5G spectrum auction in Estonia knows its first winner. The mobile operator Elisa won the first licence in the 3.5 GHz band, reported developingtelecoms.com. After Elisa pays the licence fee, the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority of Estonia, TTJA, will invite bids for the other two licences.

Slovak regulator RÚ announced the completion of the auction to award 5G licences in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band. Each of the four established mobile network operators won the spectrum. The total proceeds from the auction exceed €63m.

On 1 June 2022, the telecoms regulator BIPT officially launched the Belgian 5G auction. The long-awaited distribution of several spectrum bands is the most important spectrum auction in Belgium in the past ten years. The minimum proceeds from the auction will amount to €780m.

The Bangladeshi regulator BTRC announced on 31 March 2022, the completion of the 5G spectrum auction, reported the national news agency. Frequencies in the 2.3 GHz and 2.6 GHz bands go to four mobile network operators. Total proceeds from the sale of a total of 190 MHz amount to BDT (Bangladeshi Taka) 106.46bn (€1.12bn).

South Africa organises first-ever spectrum auction

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, ICASA, organises an auction to award much-needed spectrum for mobile operators. The auction started on 8 March 2022 after a more than 10-year delay.

Latvia awards 700 MHz licences

Short before the end of the year 2021, Latvian regulator SPRK announced the results of the 5G spectrum auction in the 700 MHz band. Three mobile operators – Tele2, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons and Bite Latvija – will pay a total of EUR 13.273 million for licences.

America completes its third-biggest spectrum auction

The US Federal Communications Commission, FCC, announced the completion of its auction to award spectrum in the 3.45 GHz band. Total proceeds of $22.5 billion making it the third biggest spectrum auction.
