Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, consults on the draft regulation on auctioning 26 GHz band. The spectrum shall serve for 5G networks. Stakeholders can comment on the draft by 6 March 2020.
The 26 GHz band became one of the central bands for 5G during the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) at the end of November. The regulator wants to award the spectrum by June.
The coverage areas would be small. That is given by the high frequency characteristics that require densely spaced base stations. Such a construction would be expensive.
Therefore, the band will be suitable for high speeds in cities, traffic hubs or public events. The first terminals may enter the market in 2020.
