Austrian operator A1 announces start of the 5Giganetz network on 25 February. With 350 sites in 129 municipalities it makes the biggest 5G network in Austria.

As a result, A1 stands out in 5G before the other two MNOs – Magenta Telekom and Hutchison Drei Austria. In addition, the operator has the biggest fibre network. Therefore, the Austrian number one further strengthens its lead position.

The dense coverage is a logical outcome of A1’s annual investments of € 450m in digital infrastructure. Its fibre-optics network is 54,000 kilometres long.

5G will work on frequencies in the 3.5 GHz band. The operator won the frequencies in the auction in 2019. Commercial sale of 5Giganetz services will start on 27 February.
